Artist from Haiti - Patrice Piard
Patrice Piard was born in the south of Haiti in June 1947. With a Bachelor in Architectural Design from the Faculty Richard Leconte in Haiti, most of his paintings reflect his knowledge of architecture and building design. Patrice continues to epitomize inventiveness in balance with discipline. Because he paints what he feels, his mood may find expression in human form or it may seek the style of abstraction, or it may be immersed in impressionists. But in every painting, there is the powerful instinct for composition and color. read more
He says he paints "a window through which his viewers may see his beloved homeland...Real Haiti! I would like them to see what I see."
In addition to painting, Patrice is one of the authors of "Haitian Artists in America," a great book featured on this site. He currently resides in New York.
"I would like a poetic quality in my paintings. If I give too much information, the painting becomes a dead-end description of a certain place. I love its poetry. This idea is to give a sense of peace and beauty by using relationship that have a purpose. I try to combine the calculated classical approach with romantic color. While I am looking for an artistic solution it demands a new approach not to one but to three of the major issues of painting, forms, color, and figurative expression. For me each canvas is a personal celebration of color, a passion which combines with peacefulness, an ambiance of harmony."
