Artist from Haiti - Alexandre Gregoire
Gregoire served in the army and later was a musician in the Palace Band. In 1966, famed Haitian artist, Gérard Valcin introduced him at the Centre d'Art. Painting in the "naive" style of Haitian art, his figures are created with simple lines and bold colors. Many of the houses he paints are box like. Some of his more common themes are village scenes, festivals, dancing, musicians, parties and other celebrations. All his works exude happiness and a child-like innocence. Alexandre Gregoire participated in many Haitian primitive art exhibitions in international museums.
