Artist from Haiti - Alexandre Gregoire
(1922 - 2001) Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti Gregoire served in the army and later was a musician in the Palace Band. In 1966, famed Haitian artist, Gérard Valcin introduced him at the Centre d'Art. Painting in the "naive" style of Haitian art, his figures are created with simple lines and bold colors. Many of the houses he paints are box like. He distinguishes male from female by the use of hairstyle or clothing. read more
