Fernand Pierre worked as a woodcutter, making little dogs as souvenirs, before he began to paint in 1948. The gingerbread Victorian houses in the old residential sections of Port-au-Prince became a favorite subject for many of his paintings. His work attracted the eye and interest of Dr. Walter E. Neiswanger, who made his first purchase of Haitian art from Pierre. read more
