Bourmond Byron was born in 1923 in Les Cayes. Having moved to Jacmel, Byron first came to the Centre d'Art in 1954 where one of his paintings was immediately sold to Bishop Voegeli of the Episcopal Cathedral. Still painting today, he is additionally said to be a traveling herbalist. His daughter Benita is also a painter, working in the distinctive Byron style. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Musee d'Art Haitien du College Saint Pierre in Port-au-Prince, the Milwaukee Museum of Art, and the Waterloo Museum of Art in Iowa.
