As a teen he lived in São Vicente, the coast of São Paulo and often visited a nearby fishing village named Guamium. He learned how to construct canoes and nets and how to fish. While he was able to earn a good living as a fisherman he never lost his love of art. He created scenes from his daily life using whatever was at hand; charcoal, chalk wax, colored pencil, ink or leftovers of the boats used in painting.
Eventually he was unable to make a living on the water due to pollution. He realized that tourists were interested in his painting style, started painting small canvases to sell.
The beginning was difficult, he worked hard and eventually his work was recognized. By 1990 he was exhibiting his art in galleries and shows and gaining an international reputation.
His landscapes are recognized for their lush, highly detailed foliage, their brilliant colors and their sense of tranquility.
