Eddy Azor
(1945-)
Eddy Azor was born in Port-au-Prince in1965. His mother was a cook and his father a shoemaker. He started to paint at 17, while still in high school. After graduating he studied electrical engineering and worked for 2 years. He continued to paint as a hobby. He had a friend who taught him different painting techniques and offered advice about the use of color. He never had any formal art training and considers himself to be a self-taught artist.
At first, he chose to paint mostly landscapes and market scenes. In 1988, inspired by the artist Defournoy and the late famous artist Charles Obas, he began to paint a lot of rainy scenes as well as scenes depicting flooding in the countryside.
Eddy Azor has never participated in any exhibition outside Haiti, but his works are permanently exhibited in Petion-ville's most prestigious art galleries, and are very popular with art collectors.
