Gesner Armand

Born in Croix-des Bouquets, Haiti

Armand was born in 1936 in Croix-des Bouquets. At a very young age he joined the Centre d' Art and exhibited there in 1959 after studying in Mexico City. Armand's work was an instant success. In 1961 the French government gave him a scholarship to study in Paris.

A very popular Haitian painter, he has exhibited in Haiti, Mexico, the United States, Paris, Spain, Jamaica, Martinique, Venezuela, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Israel.

Most of Armand's paintings are of peasant life, carnivals, and pigeons in an array of colors. His work reflects the strong love he has for his country, Haiti.

He died on June 10, 2008. He was 72 years old
