Laurenceau was born on January 10, 1942 of Haitian and French parentage. As a young man he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, the Foyer des Arts Plastiques and the ABC in Paris.
He moved to Montreal and set up his studio in 1967. During the year he divides his time between Haiti and Montreal.
The artist has an uncanny skill for capturing emotion in his paintings. Whether it is the joyful or wistful look of a child, or the pleasure or pain of the aged, Laurenceau transfers it with sensitivity to his canvases. Using color and light, he layers his subjects, weaving semi-transparent images to create works that are emotional and moving. Laurenceau pursues the human character, hoping to reveal truth and beauty in his canvases.
This world renowned artist has had exhibits in many countries including Haiti, Canada, Japan, Guadeloupe Paris, Germany and the United States.
He has won numerous prizes worldwide. His work is highly sought after by collectors.
